YARD CONCEPT IS AN ELEVATION PLATFORM FOCUSED ON CULTURAL INVESTIGATION & COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS
ROOTED YET RHIZOMATIC
The name “YARD” — pronounced “yaad” — is an homage to the Jamaican patois word meaning “home” or, more literally, the land surrounding your home. The idea of “yard” for expats is one of rich nostalgia — real and imagined — encompassing visual, olfactory, auditory, and gustatory memory. Abstracted, “Yard” is the anchor of selfhood that keeps one grounded while freely exploring uncharted territory. YARD was founded by Tiana Webb Evans, a writer, curator, and cultural producer whose decades of participation in the mainstream and margins of art, design, and culture culminates here to create a tertium quid. This “third thing” investigates unseen connections and stories between ideas and objects that seem disparate to the uninitiated. As we grow, the overarching story unfolds. We encourage you to stay the course.
WIN 2022-- Issue 04
2021 was a year of defined by unmitigated tenacity and numerous unavoidable collective and individual truths. Many of entered last year with a litany of promises to ourselves - self-care, boundaries, financial responsibility, living in our truth, leveling up, etc - forged in the stark realities of the pandemic and social turmoil. Needless to day those commitments were tested. And many discovered the only way to stand in your truth was to be firmly ROOTEDwhether it meant rediscovering your roots, reclaiming your roots, reifying your roots, or completely uprooting and rerooting. YARD found this process fascinating and invited a diverse group of creatives to share their thoughts on ROOTS, being ROOTED, and ROOTING for the latest issue of YARD JOURNAL.
